Pig on a Spit: Practice Run

Please note, this post is NSFV (Not Safe For Vegetarians/Vegans). Mr: I want to do a spit roast for my birthday. Me: *stunned silence* Mr: A rotisserie pig. Me: OHHHHH! Yep, sounds good. And that is how the madness began. Over the last month, Mr has visited every butcher within 10km of our house to chat for hours about piggies, he’s bought a little motorised rotisserie from Ebay, and has dug a giant... read more

Basil Hummus

Helloooo! Yes, it has been a while since my last post. I am a bad bad blogger. In my defence, a massive work project that I was running meant that I was working 12 day weeks and many 14 hour days for a few months. Which was pretty hideous but strangely fantastic at the same time. And at the end of it all, I was rewarded with a promotion. Eeeeee! But it’s over now. And I’m baaaaack! This is a... read more

Fake Cookie Dough

Recently I've been reading a fair few 'healthy lifestyle' blogs, mostly from the US. Many of these blogs seem to be written by marathon-running fitness gurus who somehow find the time to post about their daily food intake. read more

Chilli Mussels

It wasn't bad enough that I had to go in to work today. On a Sunday. I called it Monday Part One. But when I finished.... read more

Riverland

Remember when I used to write enthusiastic posts like this about my running training? Remember how I was going to complete the 10km Run Melbourne course this year? Well, that didn't happen. Which is a story for another day. Instead, I had breakfast at Riverland with my lovely friend T, while my Mr and her Mr completed Run Melbourne. read more

Giant Steps/Innocent Bystander

When Mr and I visited Yea a few months ago to catch some big-ass monster yabbies, we thought it might be best to have a big lunch first. You know, in case we had lousy luck and didn’t catch anything. As it turned out we really didn’t have to worry about going hungry. But I am glad that we stopped by at Giant Steps/Innocent Bystander Winery and Bistro in Healesville before we got down to... read more

Attica

Many many MANY months ago, I had the pleasure of dining with @g_melbs  @bookshopaddict @injerarufus and @annetreasure at Attica. (I have just checked the dates on my photos and it was September 2010 that we visited. FOR SHAME LAZY BLOGGER. FOR SHAME!) We dined on a Tuesday night which meant that we were able to sample the Chef’s Table: a five course experimental degustation for $95. Matched wines... read more

A Day in Yea and a Really Big Cray

When Mr suggested on Labour Day that we make a trip to Yea to catch yabbies, memories of my Dad's family wading through the Swan River at midnight to catch prawns flashed through my mind. Thankfully this scenario wasn't exactly what Mr had in mind for us and no gumboots or giant nets were required. read more

Ocha

One of the things that I love the most about Twitter is that it is no longer quite so odd to meet up with a bunch of random people you met over the internet. Yes, there are still a few massive freaks out there in Twitterland who really should stay behind their keyboards instead of venturing out into the world, but Twitter has put me in touch with some pretty funky people. On this particular occasion I was lucky enough to have @bookshopaddict, Mrs @bookshopaddict @annetreasure, @eatnik, Mr @eatnik, @ShannonERyan and Mr as my lovely dining companions at Ocha. read more

The Grace Darling Hotel

I've visited The Grace Darling Hotel twice in the last few months, once for dinner and once for Sunday lunch, and both times I have been very impressed with the food and the service. I was even brave enough to venture away from my 'always order the chicken parma when in a pub' rule and ordered the lamb spit roast for lunch today. Om. Nom. Nom. I don't think I'll need another meal for a few days. read more
