The Grace Darling Hotel

I've visited The Grace Darling Hotel twice in the last few months, once for dinner and once for Sunday lunch, and both times I have been very impressed with the food and the service. I was even brave enough to venture away from my 'always order the chicken parma when in a pub' rule and ordered the lamb spit roast for lunch today. Om. Nom. Nom. Porgie + Mr Jones

It was a windy rainy miserable night in Melbourne, as per usual. We wanted to go out somewhere but only if the venue was warm, cozy, and the food was guaranteed to be great.... Porgie + Mr Jones! This gorgeous little cafe in Hawthorn is quite well known for it's amazing breakfasts - try getting a table on the weekend without queuing up first. But it's the three course set dinner menu that really shows off what P+MJ has to offer. read more

Customer Service? Bah!

I am the first to admit that I am picky about customer service. I get annoyed when a waiter asks 'would you like sparkling water or just tap water?'. I've been known to approach shop assistants who ignore me to say 'thank you so much, you were very helpful' (yes, I am embarrassing to shop with). But this experience at Irwell's Cafe in St Kilda was rude beyond belief. read more

Sugadeaux Cupcakes Tasting Night

Jess aka Sugadeaux has balls. Not only did she invite some of the most knowledgeable & critical fooderati in Melbourne (just to clarify, not referring to myself here) to taste her cupcakes. She invited them to taste her newest cupcake creations and let them decide which ones were worthy of becoming a part of her regular menu. Ballsy right? I could not imagine anything more terrifying than asking foodies, bloggers and chefs to swarm in on mass to sample and score your baking skills. But Jess did it. Because she is legendary. read more
